5.
Prescription Medication |
| |
In
accordance with Australian regulations,
Pharmeasy can only dispense prescription
medicine on receipt of an original
Australian prescription. (Faxes cannot be accepted).
There are no exceptions to this.
Due to our professional obligations and
interests in providing you with the best
possible health outcomes, you may provide us
with some medical history about yourself.
This will ensure there is lessened risk of
any potential drug interaction or adverse
reaction to your medication.
Australia’s Health system states that
individuals may pay different prices for
their prescriptions. The price you will pay
depends on your entitlements. The different
price categories are:- PBS/NHS, Private,
Concession and Safety Net.
Pharmeasy is unable to send Australian prescription medications overseas.
Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme.(PBS/NHS)
The majority of Australians are entitled to
receive Government subsidised medications
through the Pharmaceutical Benefit Scheme (PBS).
For most prescriptions the fee is currently
$30.70. In a small number of cases a
Government surcharge may apply for more
expensive brands of medication. PBS prices
for medications are set by the Government
and cannot be discounted under any
circumstances. In some cases a special
authority prescription may be required for
an individual to receive PBS subsidised
medication.
Private prescriptions.
Some medications are not subsidised by the
Government through the Pharmaceutical
Benefit Scheme. In these cases the full
amount of the prescription must be paid for
by the consumer. It is Pharmeasy’s goal to
source such products for you on the most
cost effective basis. Many private
prescriptions can be claimed against private
health insurance (contact your fund for more
details).
Concession cards.
Holders of Pension, Health Care and Veteran
Affairs cards will generally be charged a
much lower fee for PBS prescriptions. For
most prescriptions this fee is currently
$4.90. In a small number of cases, a
Government surcharge may apply for more
expensive brands of a medication. This can
usually be avoided by electing to use a
generic equivalent to the expensive brand.
Safety net.
For PBS items, Pharmeasy will maintain a
record of all your eligible safety net
expenditure with us and advise you when you
have reached your safety net entitlement.
Safety Net Threshold
The levels for 2006 are:
General Patients:
$1059.000*
(or 54 prescriptions)
-
after which a safety net card will be issued
allowing PBS prescriptions to be charged at
$4.90* each for the rest of the calendar
year
Concession Card Holders
(pensions, health care card, veteran affairs
etc) $274.40* or 54
prescriptions – after which a safety net
card will be issued allowing NHS
prescriptions
to be free* for the rest of the calendar
year.
*These
figures are adjusted annually and do not
include surcharges for the more expensive
alternative brands/medicines.

Medication Management and Repeat Dispensing |
| |
Pharmeasy will hold all your prescriptions
for you so you'll never have to worry about
where they are.
Pharmeasy will retain your original
prescriptions, which helps you to manage
your prescription medication needs. We do
not charge for this service.
Pharmeasy will maintain your medication
records for safety net, private health cover
and taxation purposes - making it easier for
you to retrieve the information and to make
appropriate claims. Just ask us and we’ll
email, fax or mail you your desired report.
All Pharmeasy members will be provided with
medication supply summaries with every order
and which detail each delivery, the number
of days supply dispensed and the number of
remaining repeats available. This statement
will let you know when you are due to return
to your doctor for another prescription. It
remains your responsibility to take
medications as prescribed and inform us
about any changes that may occur to your
medication regime.

7.
Special Conditions |
| |
Medicare Card Number
Government regulations require you to
provide your full Medicare number and
Medicare expiry date when you request your
prescription, if that prescription is
entitled to a PBS benefit. These details are
only required once as Pharmeasy will keep
your Medicare Card details on file.
Health Care and Pension Card Holders
NSW government regulations require you to
provide a concession number and the expiry
date of your card when you request
your prescription. This only needs to be
done once as Pharmeasy will maintain all
your records in a strict and confidential
manner.
Authority Prescriptions
Some prescription items require an Authority
from the Health Department in order to be
dispensed in a certain quality or at the PBS
price. We will confirm the authority in
every case to ensure that your PBS Benefits
are protected.
Generic Brands
There are often different brands of the same
prescription medicine. Some may be more
expensive than others, despite the fact
there is no difference in the active
ingredient – but may be different in size,
shape colour and name.
Pharmeasy is interested in saving our
members money. Where equivalent less
expensive brands exist, you will be asked if
you would like us to substitute with these.
Exclusions

-
Dangerous Drugs (s8) and some
Refrigerated lines cannot be supplied.
